2013 BMW X1: The xDrive35i's 300-hp, 300-lb-ft engine makes it a beast in a straight line, accelerating the 3901-pound crossover to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds. The quarter-mile comes in 14.1 seconds at 96 mph. The xDrive28i, which packs the same 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque as the 328i, feels decently quick, and that feeling was confirmed in testing, where the four-banger crossover recorded a 0-60 mph time of 6.4 seconds and quarter-mile time of 14.9 seconds at 91.2 mph.

Though the brakes felt solid in normal use, their performance in testing wasn't as impressive. The lighter xDrive28i required 134 feet to come to a stop from 60 mph, while the xDrive35i needed 126 feet. A 3839-pound 2013 Acura RDX we recently tested needed a good deal less room to stop, at 117 feet. Given that the X1 drives so much like a car, it's no surprise that handling is sharp. The xDrive28i completed our figure-eight test in 27.1 seconds at an average 0.65 g, while the xDrive35i posted a 26.7-second result at an average 0.69 g.

BMW E30 Cabrio 325i: BMW E30 is a compact executive car with rear-wheel-drive layout (except the all-wheel-drive 325iX) produced by BMW. The BMW M3 was first introduced on the E30 platform. The E30 was released in 1982 and replaced by the BMW E36 in 1990. BMW continued to produce the cabriolet (convertible) E30 well into 1993 and the touring until 1994.

The cars were powered by a range of inline 4-cylinder and inline 6-cylinder petrol-powered engines (except for the diesel 324d and 324td models). 2014 BMW i8: the German automaker  vision of a high performance hybrid. This is what the future looks like. We can get behind a 3.0-liter inline-6 gasoline engine the form where the BMW traditionally excels joined with an electric motor for stop-start fuel efficiency, especially when both devices are combining to make 349 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. 2014 i8 will be able to overturn from zero to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds retrieving 78 mpg, so that the company claims.

It  will also be able to motor vehicle up to 22 miles solely on electricity. Sounds like a pretty good future for us. Lightweight design helps to bring such lofty performance within reach, in particular an aluminium chassis and extensive use of carbon-fibre-reinforced bars within the passenger cabin. If the production of i8 follows the concept, its wheelbase being only slightly longer than a BMW M3 sedan, but it will be 8 inches shorter overall and also 3 inches wider. It must also be weighed 650 pounds  less than M3.

2013 BMW X1 Crossover: To be unveiled this week at the 2012 New York Auto Show, the U.S. edition of the X1 compact crossover will be offered initially in three versions the X1 sDrive28i, the X1 xDrive28i ($33,245) and the X1 xDrive35i ($39,345). All prices include an $895 shipping charge. The rear-wheel-drive X1 sDrive28i and all-wheel-drive X1 xDrive28i share a 240-horsepower twin-turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4engine, while the range-topping X1 xDrive35i features a 300-hp twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-6.

All engines get auto stop-start and automatic transmission. Introduced at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show, the X1 went on sale across Europe in 2010 and originally was scheduled to reach U.S. dealers in late 2010. But the German automaker, citing strong European sales and a weak dollar-euro exchange rate, last year put the U.S. launch of the X1 on indefinite hold, electing eventually to bring the vehicle here as part of a midcycle freshening for 2013.

2013 BMW S1000RR: The HP4 uses the same 999cc, 193-horsepower inline four as the base S1000RR, recalibrated to boost torque between 6000 and 9750 rpm. An all-titanium Akrapovic exhaust cuts 9.9 pounds, and forged-aluminum, 7-spoke wheels slash another 5.3 lbs. Dry weight is claimed at just 372 lbs. (with Race ABS), which singles out the HP4 as the lightest four-cylinder literbike ever, according to BMW. The big news here, however, is the suspension. 

The HP4 debuts BMW’s revolutionary Dynamic Damping Control (DDC) active suspension system, making it the first production motorcycle to automatically alter its damping characteristics in direct response to changing riding conditions. Electronically actuated valving that instantly and constantly adjusts compression and rebound damping should result in theoretically perfect suspension action at all times, capable of absorbing big hits without compromising small-bump compliance or high-speed stability.
